Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the residents and how are they admitted to the President's Village?
The decision for admission to the President’s Village rests entirely on the Social Services. Social Services determine whether the child should be removed from their environment during intervention. From there, other forms of accommodation are explored, such as other family members or even foster care.
Placement to the residential care service is usually the last resort. Once no other alternative is found and the safety of the child is in question, the social services then proceed with the removal and placement of the child. From there, the social services through the child’s social worker becomes the child’s legal guardian.
Before the child is placed, the social worker liaises with the Manager of the Village to provide details of the immediate childcare needs and to arrange a placement planning meeting.
Upon admission, a care plan is set between the social worker and the Village Management. The Manager of the Village and other respective staff then ensure proactive engagement with the social worker to shape and contribute fully to the various plans for the child’s care on an ongoing basis.
The social worker then conducts monthly visits to monitor the child’s stay and inform them of any relevant information regarding their situation. Where there are concerns about the placement’s progress, consideration is made to seek additional resources to assist placement.
A child’s placement, in principle, is not permanent. Social Services must either work with the family to improve their situation and eventually reinstate the child into their care or identify other alternatives to accommodate the child.
What are the programmes available for children in this care-home facilities?
NCC provides a home where the basic needs of children are met. The children are able to learn new skills and ideas which are stepping stones towards their reintegration in their ‘real’ family or in the society. Children are also able to visit their family on weekends and school holidays upon request through the social services. Alternatively, a fun-packed holiday activities are provided by the management with the help of partners and volunteers.
