A few days shy of her 12th birthday, promising singer, Tyra Telemaque, has received a brand new guitar from the National Council for Children (NCC), with the promise to learn how to play it within a year. The guitar was one of the many items donated by the Chinese Embassy in June on the occasion of the National Children’s Day.
Tyra’s visit to the Council was to promote her single entitled ‘Debout for’ which talks about bullying. She was accompanied by her parents, singers Mia and Eddy Telemaque, both members of the Relations band. Tyra, who is a S1 student at Mont Fleuri Secondary School, says she has never experienced bullying. ‘The only bullying I experience are students who tries to coerce my mum’s number from me,’ she says, adding that ‘it is not easy having a superstar for a mum’.
The timid girl was however ecstatic to meet the First Lady, Linda Ramkalawan, who attended the meeting along with the Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Yasmin Umarji. Mrs Ramkalawan commended Tyra for her new song which she says will bring positive messages to children experiencing the wrath of bullies particularly those with online experiences. For her part, Mrs Umarji, stated that the song is a ‘celebration of Tyra’s talents which have been nurtured by both her parents and that a strong and stable family is the key to bringing about positive changes to our children and our community’.
NCC intends to make a video clip of the song to use as promotional materials in schools and in the community. This is just the debut of several projects that the Council discussed with the Telemaque family. The proud parents thanked the Council for such an opportunity adding that, in spite of her success, Tyra is still their baby girl and that as a family they wish to protect her as much as possible from the negative aspects of being a superstar.
With the prospects of the production of another song for NCC next year, Tyra who loves Mathematics and ICT, is aspiring to be an aerospace engineering or businesswoman. She still gets a high just eating a burger, her best fast food ever!
