There are many talented children in Seychelles. 15-year-old Abigail Figaro, a student of Anse Royale Secondary School is one of them. Through the Festival Zanfan 2021, held in June, NCC discovered Abigail’s talents in sewing. Recently, we visited her at Au Cap, where she was sowing in her small workshop. She is so talented, that she can sew a dress in an hour.
At home, she is the one responsible to sew her brother and mother’s uniforms, amongst other things. ‘This is something I love doing and I am good at,’ says Abigail. “I hope by next year to have my very own business.’ Abigail’s family is supportive of her talents and have invested into suitable equipments and materials and even allowed her to follow courses at SIYAD.
‘Parents should support their children in whatever they want to do, even if this is not what they had wished or hoped for them,’ says Abigail’s mum, Farida Figaro.
With one more year at secondary school, will Abigail’s studies take precedence over her dream? No matter what she chooses to do, NCC wishes Abigail the best in everything she wants to do!
